Therapy Services
The County of Elgin homes residents are assessed by a Physiotherapist (PT) who examines a resident’s health record and completes a physical assessment followed by the completion of a detailed individualized treatment plan. Treatments are completed by the PT or Physiotherapy Assistant (PTA) at the home. Physiotherapy aims to improve physical functioning, provide rehabilitation, increase independence and improve quality of life.
Physiotherapy Services in the Homes are funded by the Ministry of Health and provided by a contract Agency.
The County of Elgin homes Physiotherapy services are provided by the contract agency Bayshore Healthcare.

Occupational Therapy services within our homes are provided by a contract agency. Services provided include assessments of residents for adaptive equipment such as walkers, wheelchairs and seat cushions. The Occupational Therapist (OT) will complete a thorough assessment to ensure proper fitting of equipment as well as ensure appropriate paperwork is completed for eligible funding. The OT will provide the resident with a list of local adaptive equipment vendors.

The Registered Dietitian (RD) is a contract service provider who works in conjunction with the Manager of Support Services to oversee the homes nutrition and hydration programs. The RD ensures the following:
- Each resident’s level of nutrition and hydration risk is monitored;
- Implementation of nutrition interventions to manage these risks;
- A system to monito the food and fluid intake of all residents;
- Residents identified to be at high risk are monitored by the RD on an ongoing basis;
- A system to monitor and record each resident’s weight; evaluate nutrition interventions and modify these as required to meet resident’s changing needs.
The Registered Dietitian reviews and approves the planned menu and menu cycle for both regular and therapeutic diets, including texture modifications, and snacks as a new cycle menu is introduced.
The RD also provides dietetic resources as well as information brochures and education for staff, residents and family members on a range of topics.
